Reel World
By Devin D. O'Leary
SEPTEMBER 2, 1997:
Whenever I'm given a platform from which to blather on, the talk
always turns to Hollywood's stars and starlets du jour. Listen
and learn. ... Fairuza Balk, the 23-year-old star of The Craft
and Island of Dr. Moreau, is the proud owner of Panpipes
Magickal Market Place, one of the oldest occult stores in Hollywood.
Ms. Balk will also be appearing in a music video for
electro-ravers Soul Defense Network. ... Brendan Sexton Jr., the
creepy kid in Kids and Welcome to the Dollhouse,
caused a ruckus after a screening of Hurricane, a Sundance
favorite directed by Morgan Freeman. After waiting over an hour
for a table at Riverhorse Cafe in Park City, Utah, the 17-year-old
actor began dancing on the restaurant's balcony and licking the
glass windows next to where people were eating. Sexton, Freeman
and even Freeman's mom were turned away after a nasty argument
with the restaurateur. ... Christina Ricci (Addams Family Values,
That Darn Cat) is appearing as Lucy, an artist obsessed
with Barbra Streisand, in a 1998 film adaptation of Hunter S.
Thompson's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. It's a small
part (was it even in the book?), but Ricci, 17 and newly blonde,
is sure to shine. ... Don't you feel better knowing these things?
