Austin Chronicle Books on Grilling

JULY 20, 1998:

License to Grill
Chris Schlesinger and John Willoughby
William Morrow and Company, $27.50 hard
Part of the "Thrill of the Grill" series and one of the more exciting grilling texts. Also the one that almost burned my house down.

Vegetarian Grill
Andrea Chesman
Harvard Common Press, $14.95, soft
Chesman is a dear woman who grills for her family year-round at her Vermont mountaintop home and grilled for 30 Austinites recently at a Central Market cooking class.

30-Minute Vegetarian Grilling
Meredith Press, $12.95, hard
Looks like a hardbound glossy magazine. Concentrates on simple recipes for those who don't eat meat.

Grilling for Dummies
Marie Rama and John Mariani
IDG Books Worldwide Inc., $19.99 soft
Starts with the most basic information and is organized so that you don't need to read what you don't need to learn.

Born to Grill
Cheryl Alters Jamison and Bill Jamison
Harvard Common Press, $27.95 hard
The Jamisons won a James Beard cookbook award for their barbeque treatise called Smoke and Spice, and extend their favorite topic here.

All on the Grill
Michael McLaughlin

McLaughlin is one of those grilling aficionados who wants you to cook everything on the grill. The book includes a number of menus that suggest how to plan entire meals around the grill.
